Environment Art: Lighting
Lighting was the most important factor in making the spaceship environment look believable and visible. I chose blue and red lights for the ship lights to give a lighting scenario akin an emergency siren. Orange lights were placed next to fire particles for an realistic glow. Playtesters mentioned not being able to see in the maze, so a yellow ambient light was added in the maze and a flashlight on the player to increase visibility as well. The lighting needed to be baked to fix shadow errors.
One thing I learned about the Unity lighting engine is that an object can only be influenced by three lights. This constraint made me split the walls of the whiteboxes into separate pieces so that there would be less shadow errors.
